Frustratingly brief at only 42 minutes, a cynic might argue that Ulver could have taken this detour further and further away from the expected, but that is a minor quibble, and one that evaporates as this edgy but gorgeous record draws you into its glistening tailwinds.
It's not that anything on Neverland is particularly bad, it's that it's just kind of a mess that has a bunch of ideas that weren't fleshed-out enough.
THE DANGER OF CHANGE
In my profile, I wrote that my experience in Rock and Metal music leads me to comment only on these genres, without intruding on others about which I'm not competent enough to write intelligent opinions.
But when a band, born with the most acclaimed Black Metal, releases an Electronic/Ambient album, things get complicated.
From the cover art, the tracklist presents itself as a series of imaginary islands to land on, a mental state capable of renewing itself through ... read more
Fun colors.
"Fear In A Handful Of Dust" begins with pleasant nature atmosphere, the pulsing is nice with subtle melodies and warbles. The vocals work I think, fit more as it moves. I like the soundscape.
"Elephant Trunk" transitions smoothly, I like sad piano here, a moody melody. The electronic synths add a new intrigue to the melody. I like the pulse of a beat and jazzy percussion before bursting into the fold. Decent piece it unfolds into a nice cacophony. ... read more

The synth work on this album was pretty well the best part about this album and there’s also a surprising amount of really good textures to find on this album as well. Thanks to the IDM blends on here and whenever a track leaned more ... read more
