It is the most necessary Virgin Prunes record of all and captures best what they were capable of when focused.

Honestly - Part 24

Virgin Prunes - If I Die, I Die (1982)

So… I honestly don’t even know how I found this album, but I definitely don’t regret it. Quite the opposite. This is an Irish experimental, gothic, post-punk, punk-rock album that really captures the atmosphere of Ireland at the time. What adds a lot to the album is that it has its own distinct vibe... it’s a bit chaotic as well.... that might not work for everyone, but if you’re reading this, all I want ... read more

let’s make them viral - week 22

I actually did hear Baby Turns Blue before (it’s a classic for a reason), so I guess I have an opportunity to listen to the whole thing!! overall, it’s very atmospheric, sounds like The Cramps if they were goths and also raised in some 19th century Irish village. will surely be revisiting the album, when there’s a specific mood… (apparently I also got this recommended by @Szala, so ty for the rec lol)

The vocals really ruin it for me. The instrumental’s are decent on most songs though.

I just realized I haven't actually listened to a full album by The Cure yet what am I doing with my life
We had the same voting system as last week's pick which consisted of some very difficult picks but this one managed to eke out - Gothic Rock record '...If I Die, I Die' by Irish band Virgin Prunes. And we may have been correct with our pick (except Archie Shepp better).
From what little I've heard from the gothic rock ... read more

Let's Make Them Viral - Week 22

80s Irish gothic rock album for this week, that I think experiments a bit with its instrumental use.

The opening instrumental track was pretty good, I liked the strings. The track float onto the next one "Decline And Fall" with a more apparent flute play too. I see people hating on vocals on this album, and this track contains ones that aren't the strongest, but not bad either... until the third track "Sweethome Under White Clouds" ... read more

Didn't really care for this one at all, there are some decent ideas here and there with some cool outside influences, but I have a hard time trying to figure out what exactly these guys want to aim for; either to be this really cool mysterious dark band or to try and reach the heights that The Cure achieved (the lighter/more accessible songs on this thing do stick out like a sore thumb). Plus... yeah, those vocals, like everyone else said... this ain't it chief. I could kinda tolerate ... read more
