Finally, a reason to cheer the ’80s revival! INXS’ latest, Elegantly Wasted, recalls the kick of their pre-alterna-rock prime.
The title track of INXS' tenth album is a crackling, thrusting, pouting chunk of 'classic' INXS: a great rolling bassline, shards of guitar like gunfire, a big euphoric chorus and loads of darkly glamorous, voodoo danger atmosphere.
Funnily enough, in some ways INXS are better than Oasis, if only because the Australian guitar - smackers occasionally exit the rock highway to explore the slip roads.
INXS go through the motions, coming up with a record nearly as weak as Full Moon, Dirty Hearts. The really unfortunate thing is, it sounds like they were trying this time around.
This album was lowkey kinda fun, but I think it lacks a lot of quality. Still though, a decent release from INXS.
An act of reconstitution declares maturity or despair. The truth lies somewhere in the middle and only time will tell.
