two things I love are taut pop songs and thoughtful covers, so this album hits on both scores. Whyte Horses psych-pop approach creates a kind of post-nostalgia where old songs sound new. add in some top vocalists and you have a great recipe for a solid cover album. the downside is that some listeners won't clue in since they won't recognize some of these not-so-classics.
A covers album. Whyte Horses are a Manchester outfit, not a band, more a concept. The guy behind it, Dom Thomas, a DJ, crate digger and Stone Roses appreciator. The songs on the album range from obscure to lesser known to classics. The versions range from true to type to eclectic. The overarching effect is kaleidoscopic and wonderful. Mr Natural (originally Bee Gees) endures.
