The delicate smallness of M83 is where the wonder and romance truly shine; those fantastic traits were only drowned out in the other, more massive productions.

Needy contextualization aside, M83 provides a modest backward glance, a chance to see where certain seeds were planted, but pretty as it is at times, I keep wishing it would jolt from basic black-and-white to unwieldy technicolor.

M83 ultimately serves as a decent introduction and a curiosity that would best be absorbed by his hardcore acolytes.

I discovered M83 when I heard the song “Go!” on the racing game, Forza Horizon 3. I enjoyed it enough to check out some of their other music, but besides realizing that “Midnight City” is made by the same person, I didn’t put too much thought into M83 past that moment. M83's first album is easily one of the weakest albums in his discography. A lot of the tracks don't sound well mixed and sound if they need lots of editing and polishing. There are some pleasant moments on the record but I'd be lying if I said this wasn't a very mediocre album. My favorite track was Sitting.
