The Cranberries second album, No Need to Argue, is definitely the band's essential album.
Where No Need succeeds best is when the Cranberries stick at what they know.
The Cranberries write traditional but timeless songs ... Cranberry charms emerge slowly but reliably. They are a fine group and this is a fine record.
No Need To Argue sets its own musical identity firmly alongside its older sibling: O’Riordan’s whoops and hollers still brittle, still stick thin, though seeming to edge an octave higher than they did before.
The sweetness of the debut has been replaced by a stodgy adult bitterness, like tea steeped too long or porter gone sour.

The third LP that I ever bought is still as good as it was when this was released some 28 years ago!
Lyrically, vocally and musically this is beautiful, haunting and uplifting. For me it is their best work and has stood the test of time and will continue to do so.
