This album sunk its hooks into me right away with the first two tracks, and hardly let up from that point on. This is such a refreshing take on post rock I've never heard before, meshing electronic sounds and rock instrumentation incredibly well. The pacing of this record is fantastic, with some tracks being high-octane post rock odysseys coupled with these more subdued tracks that have really satisfying progressions. Oh boy is it time to get to an interesting project that’s caught my eye for a bit now and that is the Post-Rock / Electronic band 65daysofstatic. And I went with this as an intro point and yeah it was very good! We Were Exploding Anyway is a neat little Electronic and Post-Rock album with some blends of IDM and Breakbeat. 65daysofstatic continues to iterate how awesome a genre mix of electronica and post-rock is with another wonderful album. This particular release takes a much more dancey approach than previous albums, with plenty of plodding 4-on-the-floor beats to go around. The soundscapes crafted here include some of their best—Mountainhead and Debutante in particular are massive highlights in their discography for me—however the album overall is less exciting than some of their previous works. ... read more
A pretty messy post rock album at points with not the greatest mixing for what it's going for but the sound of this album is still immaculate. No bad songs, still a great soundscape, just some traits to this album as a whole that makes it less enjoyable than other 65daysofstatic albums, but still very good without a doubt.
This is an absolute masterpiece of an album, only flaw is the mastering is a tiny bit too low for comfort but that is made up for by how insanely good these songs are! It first hits you with Mountainhead and you would assume that's about as intense as the album can get, you're wrong. As soon as Mountainhead finishes you are violently assaulted with Crash Tactics and it immediately blows your mind by somehow being one of the most intense songs ever created, Dance Dance Dance seems to calm things ... read more
