The former reality TV contestant and current X Factor judge really needed to up her game with her fourth solo outing. Unfortunately, her latest effort sees her stumble, in some cases, spectacularly so.

It’s ironic, of course, that in attempting to write songs about human feelings, Cheryl has resorted to such inhuman techniques. Despite an interesting concept and some sparky lyrics, this is a terrible collection of music. There’s no drama in the presentation of ideas, only assertion, and the singing is abominable.

Cheryl’s Only Human brings a mature, introspective angle to her music while staying fresh and enjoyable. The album combines Cheryl's pop appeal with more atmospheric and experimental elements, making it feel different from her previous work. This is Cheryl at her absolute best. Only Human has everything you need from her: great bops, good ballads and amazing midtempos as well. The title track is quite honestly the greatest song of her career, absolute perfection. The other singles are 10/10 as well and are major pop perfection. The real standout here is the production (especially on tracks like All In One Night, Live Life Now and It's About Time), it's slick, modern and fits her voice perfectly.
