Henry Steinway, aka RL Grime, was hung up on trap music around the time of this debut album's release, but knowing that one can't just stutter their way through a first, full LP, Void mixes it up a bit, drawing from many different strains of EDM.
Void shows RL Grime at the top of both his game and the current trap scene, devastating mid-range and 808s poised to destroy any club in which they’re let loose.
With VOID, his debut album, he's clearly keen to showcase his versatility.
Going from bootleg soundcloud trap remixes of songs to full-length studio albums is a pressure I wouldn't wish on anyone. RL Grime came a huge way from Grapes, High Beams and all his various remixes, official and unofficial, but Void is still not the slam dunk I wanted it to be back in 2014. And Void may be his best work, since I haven't liked much of anything RL Grime has released since 2014.
