Destination: Pakistan

This makes me feel like I'm in a minivan. One of those stoner ones with the paintings on the doors and the lights and cusions in the interior. Just driving across the middle east jumping everytime we hit a rock. Some hitchhiker we picked up who smells like sheep is playing a sitar with a string missing. The car smells of disel and weed. I'm on the seat closest to the AC and our supply is almost out from our last gas siphon. We carry on.

Azadi is a very interesting mix of Pakistani folk music and jangly post-punk guitars. Junoon have sometimes been described as Pakistan's U2 and it's not hard to see why. The best songs on this record are practically begging to be blasted at music festivals. Despite the over-the-top 80s hard-rock guitar solos found on most of the tracks, the persistent percussion from the tabla makes this album sound distinctly South Asian from beginning to end: a genre some have termed "Sufi Rock". ... read more

'Azadi' definitely plays it's best cards early as, at first, I was quite pleasantly surprised by how eclectic and fun everything I was hearing was. However, as the album progressed, the music certainly didn't, and with albums over an hour, I can't imagine a bigger crime than redundancy and unmemorability.
