I don't even feel right reviewing this because I feel like I'm not getting something about this album. I think every member flows amazingly here, and Lauryn especially steals the show. But I don't know each track feels lacking in some way. The production is great, but I don't know. I might give this another listen soon and try to pay extra attention to the lyrics. Blunted Interlude and Some Seek Stardom were especially good songs.
+ everyone has a lot charisma and character
+ love the production choices on many of these tracks
+ lauryn hill
+ love wyclefs accent
- some of the tracks sound dated
- a bit slow , the tracks dont feel connected
- long
Imagine in an alternate reality where The Fugees are just a duo consisting of Wyclef and Lauryn Hill, wouldn't that be awesome? Honestly, you take either one of them two away from this record, the Fugees' debut becomes a lot...lot...worse. Especially considering Pras is somehow a professional rapper. If Pras can make it big, so can y'all.
But, focusing away from Pras, the trio actually does work together, even if Pras is the CLEAR outlier between the three. Wyclef and Lauryn ... read more

Artist: Fugees
Project: Blunted on Reality
This is rough but you can hear the foundation forming. The production leans into early 90s hip hop with reggae and dancehall influence, just it feels a bit scattered and not fully locked in.
The structure is uneven, some tracks have real energy and direction, others feel like they’re just looping ideas without much development, so the pacing dips in spots.
The atmosphere is inconsistent but interesting, it jumps between playful, ... read more
Look, Wyclef Jean’s performances are comfortable and worthwhile; I won’t dispute that, and Pras is… Pras. However, I get oddly aggravated whenever somebody besides Lauryn Hill is spitting, where I’m either eagerly waiting for her verse or wishing it were her rapping instead. The Score didn’t make me feel this way because Lauryn is a much more abundant presence on that album, whereas here there are more so just hints of her. However, those hints already made it ... read more
Making boring albums should be illegal.
Except for the first three songs, this is some of the most standard East Coast hip hop I've heard in a while. The only interesting part of the album is the reggae influence, especially in the refrains.
Good production and flows from all members. The lyrics are really well done too, everything works together and really paints a picture most of the time. The more political lyrics are really well done. I think this album would've been phenomenal without the interludes and filler throughout. Too many unnecessarily long songs here. Despite being catchy, the albums length unfortunately takes away from the album. The production is a really strong point of this album, all of the beats are amazing ... read more
When Lauryn Hill is on the mic, this album shines much more than when the others have it. Thank goodness they created The Score after this.
Feb.1994.1
There are highlights (Nappy Heads & Boof Baf) but so much of this album just feels lifeless in a way that feels so far removed from what makes The Score so good. None of the energy that’s so prevalent on that album is here for the most part, and the band basically sound like Onyx on sleeping pills for most of it. That’s not to say this is a bad album, it’s still the Fugees after all, and there’s enough talent to make sure it’s always at least a somewhat ... read more
It sounds like a hip hop from the 90s. Tracks are long and when you add long tracklist then album becomes kind of boring. I came to this album after listening to 'The Score' and I think that was a bad idea, because this one sounds nothing like their 1996 sound. Some some have nice hooks "Giggles" or "Vocab". Overall this album is not that but, but it's definitely not for me.
worst album makes the Fugees dumb day bad 90s dope rap
era of music not best album fugees
WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY ARE YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LONG LIKE OH MY STARS END ALREADY GOLLY GOSH GEE DARN MAN BAM BAM BAM BAM
A politically-driven album that project the ideas of racial inequality that plagues society as we know it. While the delivery from each performer is aggressive and heartfelt, the statements that they attempt to get across seem so dull and scattered through each track and unnecessary interludes.
Best tracks: “Nappy Heads;” “Recharge;” “Boof Baf”
Worst tracks: “Giggles”
As a fan of the Fugees and of course Lauryn Hill, their first outing wasn’t there best work, if anything besides an occasional good performance, (Nappy Heads, Vocab) Blunted on Reality is better left in the Fugees past. That not to say it should be forgotten though.
