In a stroke of genius that had perhaps been long in the planning, after breaking away from American Music Club and going solo Eitzel turned to the genres of lounge, jazz and pop to fashion a totally different sound that was at once both genuinely surprising and at the same time obviously a perfect fit.
Mark had always written about losers drinking their pay cheques only now he was finally recording music that sounded like he was playing directly to half empty dives and cheap hotel bars.
