most indie rock kinda sounds the same to me, but this one feels more raw and a bit different from the usual sound. it’s also aged really well and i ended up enjoying it way more than i expected. there’s a nice level of detail in the production and some genuinely enjoyable moments throughout, but it still doesn’t fully stand out or stay engaging the whole way through. but it’s a decent album that i can appreciate
This is the second project from Hippo Campus that I’ve listened to in full.
Keeping in mind this is a 2014 album, I do think it has aged a bit, especially in its use of bass, which was probably my least favorite part. Some songs also feel a bit generic and stereotypical. Still, I would not say it is a bad listen at all. It is quite fun and even a bit childish, in the best way.
