Pinback is either a band that you get or you don't, and even though Information Retrieved is an excellent album, it won't do a whole lot to win over anyone who has already decided that Pinback isn't for them.
From start to finish, Information Retrieved sounds confident and deliberate, a consummate release from two deft musicians who’ve made every note count.
Information Retrieved achieves an interesting balance between showcasing Pinback’s unique take on classic indie rock and offering something that’s immediately familiar, something with the air of an old acquaintance
For an album of such wide-open sounds and ideas, Information Retrieved has a true knack for living in, and succeeding on, the smallest of details.
There's something inherently nostalgic about Information Retrieved delivering exactly what you'd expect.
There’s a perversity to Information’s lack of dynamic that leaves it feeling not only flat, but maddeningly so.
It is not often that you hope a band will stop playing to their strengths, but Information Retrieved leaves Pinback needing to do something unpredictable.
Even the most ardent of fans may find themselves somewhat irked to be given essentially the same album, from the same band for the fourth time.
Every listen to Pinback’s latest record is so forgettable due to its insistence on treading familiar ground track after track that you may as well have never heard it at all.
Man even their overlooked albums are great
As the final Pinback album, this is a very good ending. I didn’t realize how consistently good they are. They might be one of the most consistently solid indie bands out there. Every album there are at least a handful of songs I return to. On this one it’s not as grand of a statement, but the experience is absolutely still there and a lot of these songs are great. The song Sherman is probably in my top 5 songs from the band. Oh my god ... read more
A bit of a disappointing release of a final album to have after making such great albums before but still has some pretty good songs on there worth listening to. This is the band at their most matured sound and their highest point in production quality and songwriting. This album has shown that no matter what, the band has always sticked to their original sound and have made their own take on indie rock music with a focus on bass guitar and simple yet powerful songs. Looking forward to what may ... read more
overall this is probably my least favorite Pinback release, but there are some really fantastic stand out tracks in this album; true north, his phase, glide, sediment are all really great. but its too polished to sound like pinback to me, i largely prefer their earlier work where they recorded in a garage, or zachs place or something. their rough on the edges, more lo-fi recording, gave them such a genuine feeling charm to their stuff. i will say i am a little hypocritical, because i LOVE ... read more
