Testify feels a bit hemmed in, the sound of a singer/songwriter marching through the drudgery of life.
This album isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. Sure… is it uninspired? Yes. Is it at times boring? Yes. But it's not the worst album of its year. His voice still sounds great and there are some genuinely nice tracks in here. It might have been the worst release of his career up to this point but it's still worth a listen.
Highlights: Testify, Swing Low and Can't Stop Loving You.
I can't not like this album and despite the bitter ratings it is still the one I like to come back to.
It sounds very good and Phil's vocals are in great shape.
