Bathory showcases little to no evolution on their sophomore studio album. Instead, the primary focus leans more on continuing the tradition of the debut, which isn’t inherently a bad thing. I simply find this album to be lacking in memorability and growth compared to Quorthon’s previous work. As the years pass by, this record feels less and less powerful than the albums it’s surrounded by, and significantly less essential. The only thing that makes The Return...... different ... read more
Kind of in a weird spot but remains a part of an iconic early discography in metal as a whole.
"Revelation Of Doom" is an intro track that doesn't really do much for me. If moves into "Total Destruction" however, which hits with a vicious riff and approach. Nasty blackened sorcery. I wish the vocals were louder because they fit perfectly otherwise. In your face and to the point, great track.
"Born For Burning" starts with another very solid riff, more ... read more
Bathory on their sophomor album, The Return, seems them continue they blackened thrash metal, with their fast tempo and dark heavy atmosphere which works well with the more raw vocals and lo fi production. Overall, it is solid follow up to their debut but not necessary any real growth.

This one kinda fell for me a bit. It still has its good moments, but it's an overall ok album. Production is a bit weaker, less memorability to it, wasn't nearly AS raw as the debut, but wasn't really that impressed with the sound. And the majority of this album does kinda go by too fast. The moment you think it's gonna go somewhere, it just ends. Yeah don't really have that much to say about. Not bad, but most certainly not great.
