A lot of older hip hop fans bitch about the new generation’s departure from the raw lyricism and boom bap sound of late '80s and '90s hip hop. Disgruntled hip hop heads, I give you J. Cole.

super late edit: nvm he didn't anyways this is a really great mixtape cole sound undeniably hungry on here and i enjoy hearing him over other artists beats too quite a bit he did really great over the last call instrumental
i have a theory since we got his first 2 mixtapes through the last 2 weeks we're obviously getting Friday night lights next week and i have a feeling that then we'll be getting the fall off the week after since this low key feels like how this should go ... read more
Well damn. This is my 2nd review on J Cole’s old mixtapes which he’s rereleased recently on Spotify. I didn’t really listen to this while it wasn’t on streaming and that was a choice I regret. J Cole lowk snapped on every track on here. This is an improvement on pretty much all fronts from The Come Up which was already good. while all of Cole's studio albums are getting higher, this mixtape is being left behind 😭😭 like a 74 to 75 is decent but i think it chould be a 77 at least
