I love regulate but they bring this sort of confused band that practices in moms basement vibes. You can kind of hear an identity crisis on this album. Songs fluctuating between traditional cro-mags hardcore, Coheed and cambria vibes, pop punk vibes, and a turnstile impersonation.
I am missing the personal storytelling, the political outrage, and the pure energy.
I discovered these guys indirectly through my current obsession with all of Parker Cannon's work I can find. No Pressure and Regulate recently toured together, and I when I saw a YouTube short of Parker Cannon moshing to Regulate, I knew I needed to check them out. I was actually surprised with what I heard. I didn't expect to hear so much singing, as allon stated, but I do very much accept it. Regulate is hardcore music that you could probably hear played on a local radio station, but also, ... read more
I definitely wasn't expecting this much actual ~singing~ but I'm not mad at it. A cool blend of melody and tough guy stuff that I'm sure will pop up more in 2023.
I rarely ever listen to Regulate, not for any reason, they just don’t come up on my radar enough. I decided to check out their self titled album, & it’s pretty interesting to say the least. It has that New York hardcore flare with some awkward pop punk cuts. Good vocal presence & musicianship though. This is pretty decent, couple of weird moments, but not bad.
As a melodic hardcore glazer. They put their whole regulatussy into this. Regulate has powerful writing across their works, but this is their best execution. Sound is cohesive without falling into the hardcore habit of making 10 tracks that all sound the same. FFO Big Kiss Goodnight (TUI) and Time & Space (Turnstile).
Favorite track: Work
Least favorite: In This Life and the Next
The riffs are ridiculous as always with Regulate. Definitely one of their weaker albums vocally though. But I mean it’s Regulate, they’re still gonna fuck regardless of any of their weaknesses.
Really solid hardcore album with some extra elements thrown in. The really great songs are The Crime, You & I, Work, and C.O.P. The rest are fun tunes but fall flat in some aspects of memorability and lack a true grabbing moment. The track Hair stands out as more of a pop punk tune, but hits me as a real outlier in a bad way. It is a decent track on its own merit, but fits weird in the context of this record. On the best moments, the vocals are raw and aggressive, the breakdowns hit hard, ... read more
