A real disappointment after the very good, very promising Northern Star.
Insincere, bland, glossy, rubbish lyrics ... Perhaps Northern Star's diversity smacked of desperation, an artist in a crumbling pop band unsure what direction to take. Reason settles on a direction, sounds confident and efficient and wrings the last drops of originality out of Melanie C.
After the Spice Girls' split Melanie C returned to her solo career and Reason was her comeback album, it's not as edgy as Northern Star and it's more in line with the typical early 00s pop rock sound. It's a consistent record but the thing is even though none of the tracks are bad they're forgettable, making Reason a weaker album than her debut.
