Prism is classic Orb. It's a sprawling, genre-bending work that is able to showcase both Orb's continued creativity and their sonic exploration.
Like a hazy dream with rotating characters and themes, the most intriguing components of Prism wander in and out of the mix, tucked away inside a peaceful fog woven from samples, keyboards, and some outside talent.
Ultimately, Prism ends up faring much like the previous two Orb albums -- another eclectic mixed bag that has some amusing ideas but doesn't feel as focused as the group's best work.
This was a great experience overall, with a good start and a very strong finish with the final 2 ambient tracks. More people should be talking about this one and giving it a shot!
It's pretty good but the ambient sections haven't quite warmed up to me yet. This record specifically had a lot of dub influence and it was extremely enjoyable. The Orb have 30 years under their belt when it comes to "ambient dub" and they know how to pull it off. These are perhaps the dumbest song names on any orb record.
