This version of Sextile has energy, fun, and potential to spare, and Push confounds expectations thrillingly.
Push is a nicely compact album full of bass drops that are complimented by a punk attitude, perfect for whether you decide to put on a rave or decide to create a soundtrack for a Cyberpunk world. It just gets your brain going.
As far as aims go, Sextile succeed in what they went for. It might be a blunt instrument they are wielding, and it might become wearisome sooner than you like, but Push does at least push its listener to the dancefloor for a short while – even if it feels like it’s through brute force alone.
There's a couple of duds, but overall this is a stupid fun album.
If you like punk, and you like Darude - Sandstorm, you'll probably like this.
I get it - merge acid synths and rave beats with punk guitars and vocals. Sure. Except, also: don't.
In places, Sextile get away with this mish-mash - "LA DJ" has the LCD Soundsystems about it, for example.
