Despite a few sections that felt a bit too busy instrumentally for me to enjoy them fully, Dakar is a very good record from Coltrane. It's not one of his most ambitious albums, nor would I necessarily say it's his most memorable, but it's still a nice listen and a very good starting point for people looking to get into Coltrane's work. It's not as complex or ambitious as A Love Supreme, which is kinda what makes it so much more of an easier and more casual listen generally.

God DAMN that was a big squeak.
Passable little album here, but I don't think it gives me anything new or exciting.
It does feature a few bari saxes, but I that's virtually the only point of interest in this album.
The solos are pretty solid, the heads are okay, and it all combines to be a very mundane experience.

Eh. I dunno.
Yeah this one didn't do much for me, I think if you listened to this before any of the other RVG recordings it would make a bigger impact on you, but after running the other 17 albums before this one of RVG, it juat doesn't have a fresh enough flavor.
I think there are pleasant moments, but overall this thing just has almost nothing going for it that other Coltrane albums of the RVG era don't already have.
