Crowbar might be becoming one of my favorite bands in the genre of sludge metal, just two albums into their career they were already putting out some premier stuff. The guitar tone on here is absolutely nasty and the riffs in every song are excellent. This was also apparently produced by Phil Anselmo, and that does show quite a bit, this does have a bit of that groovy, Pantera-ish edge. A significant improvement from the debut, it gets way closer to a signature sound that isn't just "hardcore but slow", it's got those giant-sounding, atmospheric riffs and lots of vocal variety that will dominate the rest of their career. It still gets a little bit boring near the end of it, but it's a short album so it's not an unforgivable sin.
