A Moment Apart finds the Seattle duo of Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight putting forth their most ambitious material to date.
A Moment Apart is a further expansion of the ODESZA empire, and the duo's most ambitious, widescreen work yet.
When the duo do hit their stride, they show a natural ability to write tight, late summer floor fillers, with a number of tunes set to pack out dance festivals for years to come.
At fifteen tracks, ‘A Moment Apart’ feels stretched, verging on indulgent given the lack of variety throughout the project ... While ‘A Moment Apart' has the foundations of a great album, ODESZA fall slightly short of the mark.
While the production is undeniably sophisticated, with clever subliminal noises and waves of melancholia and affirmation, the multiple guest-vocal tracks feel like they’d be suited for Radio 1’s daytime playlist; it’d be no surprise if the Odesza boys ended up as the next Bastille.
I expected this to have a much better rating, but this site is never predictable, which I guess is more a good thing.
