This album will bring you to a state of musical bliss that’ll make you say, “Well played, Moby, well played.”

Nothing feels forced, the tunes’ order plays like a summary of a night long DJ set that starts slow and ends at the crack of dawn with downtempo/trip hop. Some are highlights, others fly by making less of an impact, yet they are not throwaways. Despite being released as separate singles, the LP plays very well as a whole.

PopMatters

Moby creates a series of melancholy soundscapes, along with some upbeat tunes, to highlight the collection of talented singers on Always Centered at Night.

AllMusic

For an album which spans multiple styles and features a different guest vocalist on every song, Always Centered at Night is consistently passionate and spiritual.

The Line of Best Fit

Moby’s selection of collaborators here is a great way to introduce yourself to some talented yet unfamiliar artists. His creatively unrestrained approach results in a record that is hotch-potch but also one that contains several stirring, noteworthy songs.

This new album finds the producer gazing once more to the future, grappling with new ideas. Not quite unshackling himself from the past, ‘always centered at night’ is a rewarding experience which will do much to push back unjust preconceptions.

Uncut

This luxuriant collection is one of Moby’s most consistently inviting and uplifting in years.

Yet more often than not it resembles a New York-flavoured spin on the retro coffee table house of Zero 7 or Lamb.

Following last year’s Resound NYC, a record that saw a whole host of collaborators show up to re-record some of his old songs, this time around all the songs are brand new.

The Arts Desk
A sprinkling of well-wrought songs enliven a sometimes unstimulating collaborative album.

The mere fact that the 2023 deceased Benjamin Zephaniah - R.I.P Benjamin - contributed to this album the vocals for "Where Is Your Pride?" draws my attention, maybe also the idea to produce a non-commercial album only with songs with vocals of different, rather less well-known artists. The result is a set of 13 downtempo, trip hop, ambient and deep house tracks with a wide variety of voices and the occasion to pick up one or two new artist you don't know to date. 2024 ELECTRONIC ALBUMS SERIES #36
Now the wheel decides to choose an album from the accomplished producer Moby. And well this thing actually surprises me in a sense. I was expecting this to be pretty mediocre but it turns out to actually be a solid release, surprised he’s still got it after all these years. There are some boring tracks but that doesn’t take away that this thing is still a solid release.
My favorite tracks: transit, on air, feelings come undone, wild flame, dark ... read more

It’s amazing how Moby managed to merge a bunch of obscure guest vocalists into a somewhat cohesive album. The overall sound goes through many changes but still remains grounded. The songs are easy to connect with, and it never feels bloated. Some tracks don’t do as much for me, but the high points on here are amazing and elevate the overall experience. Moby’s still got it!
