Undoubtedly Roach's first true masterpiece.

Well that was certainly two hours. This brand of ambient while spacious is also very sparse which can easily lead to disconnect to the listener. I liked a track or two but the vast majority of my experience was pretty apathetic unfortunately. I just wish that there was more tribal elements in this tribal ambient album.

Recs:
- The Continent
- Airtribe Meets the Dream Ghost
- A Circular Ceremony
- The Other Side
- Red Twilight With the Old Ones
- The Return

Out of all the sub genres of Ambient, Tribal Ambient seems to me the most obscure and less out of the others; Space and Dark. Most explored by people and well there is no better place to start than Dreamtime Return and although the 150 minute runtime is quite daunting, Steve Roach manages to create such a meditative and captivating soundscape with some truly amazing ethereal tracks.

With how the album also blends in New Age and Space Ambient and Progressive Electronic really does elevate this album into what it ends up being. And honestly, I’d give Structures From Silence a perfect score as I do think it’s incredible. BUT this is actually a better album just ... read more

Holy cow. I always appreciated Structures from Silence... but this is Steve's magnum opus. It is on the longer side but is perfect meditation music. His knack for ambience is amplified by tribal lagers and unique soundscapes making for arguably the greatest ambient record of the 80s. I am in love with this record. Bravo.
