Windhand were poised as one of the year’s potential metal breakthroughs. But Soma sits still, paralyzed by the weight of a sound that’s too big for this promising band to manage, at least for now.
great doom stoner metal with big standout "woodbine" which was definitely my favorite. the vocals on here are very dreamy and reverb heavy which contribute to the psychedelic mood this album puts you in, and is a lighter track compared to how dark and heavy the atmosphere gets on here. Evergreen is another standout since it's contemporary folk, but it's a pretty good one with kind of a haunting vocal style that i liked a lot. album ends with the 30 minute "boleskin" that's ... read more
this is such an easy and pleasant listen, probably one of my favourites from the doom genre. the reason why this is rated low is because the vocals are too clear and echoey, and not metal enough, but i would argue this should be normalised. sure it’s repetitive, but i can’t think of many doom/stoner metal albums which structure themselves like this one does, especially with the vocals and relentless hi hat crashes.

I have found out about this band while searching for material similar to Electric Wizard and after taking an initial look at this album I was surprised at how often this band is featured on lists pertaining to that. I ... read more
if i simply said this album blew me the fuck away, that would be a MASSIVE understatement. this album gives you some of the heaviest riffs in stoner doom that make you feel like you're being crushed by the weight of the moon, then those riffs are mixed with the unreal ethereal vocals of dorthia cottrell, vocals of which have left tears in my eyes, especially with woodbine
funny enough, woodbine is only one of two songs that left me teary-eyed. for their fourth track, evergreen, they slow ... read more
a maioria das músicas são iguais? SIM!
pleasant listen, but it drops off towards the end. i feel like they added 'Evergreen' just to not sound like a blatant Electric Wizard ripoff, but it didn't work so well.
