To begin writing Faithfull off with this album would ... be a gross insult. These songs may be scorched with an unavoidable yearning quality, but they find her standing at a new creative peak.

The four tracks on this new EP ... may lack the visceral impact that comes with actually seeing Cave stalk round the stage, alternately lamenting or howling with boundless energy and leaving audiences utterly mesmerised, but they at least go some way to explaining just what the fuss is about.

So long as you don't necessarily expect some drastic change of course from !!!, 'As If' won't disappoint. This is what happens when 'Thr!!!er' fades out and someone has the good sense to suggest that they keep the party going on, and on, and on, until no-one has the energy to dance any more.
