DAY 11 OF REVIEWING EVERY SINGLE ESSENTIAL RAP ALBUM

Today’s is Boogie Down Productions’ Criminal Minded, released on March 3, 1987. The LP was great. Nice job of rapping from KRS-One, I thought he did really good with this project. I love how catchy some songs are like, “9mm Goes Bang” and, “Super-Hoe”. I think this is a great debut album from Boogie Down Productions.

Best Track: the self-titled track, Criminal Minded
Worst Track: tie between, “Word ... read more

DAY 10 OF REVIEWING EVERY SINGLE ESSENTIAL RAP ALBUM

Today’s is Salt-N-Pepa’s Hot, Cool & Vicious, released on December 1, 1986. The album was good. It had a fair amount of highlights especially when it came to rapping. Salt-N-Pepa really showed that woman can not only sing but can also rap. Also, one last thing to mention, great production from Hurby Luv Bug.

Best Track: Beauty And The Beat
Worst Track: Chick On The Side
Best Feature: N/A

DAY 9 OF REVIEWING EVERY SINGLE ESSENTIAL RAP ALBUM

Today’s is Beastie Boys’ Licensed to Ill, released on November 15, 1986. This LP was great. I had a great time listening to this album. The Beastie Boys really showed not only their lyricism but also flow, experimentation, and hooks. Especially, on “Paul Revere” with the reverse beat and “Brass Monkey” with the rhythmically timed saxophone. They really showed how good they are on their debut LP.

DAY 8 OF REVIEWING EVERY SINGLE ESSENTIAL RAP ALBUM

Today’s is Run-D.M.C.’s Raising Hell, released on May 15, 1986. This LP is great. “Raising Hell” by Run-D.M.C. shows how good rap and rock elements are together. Both of these elements appear on “Walk This Way” and the self-titled track, “Raising Hell”. Also, help make hip hop music mainstream with “It’s Tricky”. This project is why hip hop stands to this day.

DAY 7 OF REVIEWING EVERY SINGLE ESSENTIAL RAP ALBUM

Today’s is Grandmaster Flash’s The Source, released on March 2, 1986. This LP by THE Grandmaster Flash is good. He and his team did really well on this project. They are able to have multiple elements of music in the project. That’s what I like about this project. But, it can get boring after a while. Flash barely never changes his flow and it gets repetitive after a period of time. But, anyways this LP is good. It’s ... read more
