The enjoyment I get from this is purely that of a historical sense. Like reading a history textbook for fun. Which, I'm sure doesn't appeal to everyone. Either way, it's cool to look back and hear songs like Rock Box and It's Like That as the gold standard for rap at the time. You can shit on how it sounds nowadays all you want, but you can never say we'd get to this point in music without it.

Albums like Paid In Full and Criminal Minded are always credited as being some of the biggest game changing projects in hip hop, but don't forget about the album that influenced those! This album was the birth of hardcore hip hop, introduced styles of rapping that weren't seen before, and pretty much ended the Sugarhill Gang/Kurtis Blow era. The first two songs had me happily bobbing my head to the rhythm, but yeah, it becomes apparent pretty quickly that this project is very one-dimensional and dated - which is to be expected, of course.

Still though, it's really fun to look at hip-hop in its embryo, and some lines here are unintentionally hilarious lol

Decent old school hip hop. Although corny, it was interesting to listen to old flows that have died out. Some of the beats were more interesting than I expected.

There is nothing notable about this album. I'm not a fan of the sparse instrumentation, and the vocals don't compensate for it. I know it was groundbreaking at the time, but I don't like it.

I understand I am just a zoomer picking on low hanging fruit, but like c'mon man we are ever coming back to this. Generally when I get birthday gifts from friends my parents just tell them I like rap music, and while the older taste of them has helped me out with listening sometimes like with E.P.M.D, the Low-End Theory, or 3 feet high and risinng I've been duplicate gifted this 3 times, and I'm like thank you, knowing it's not getting listened to.
