DAY 13 OF REVIEWING EVERY SINGLE ESSENTIAL RAP ALBUM

Today’s is Public Enemy’s Yo! Bum Rush the Show, released on February 10, 1987. I think Public Enemy did pretty good, they showed that how to make fun album. This also set off the start of the greatest political hip hop group ever. This LP showed the talent behind the two main rappers, Flavor Flav and Chuck D. Overall, this album was pretty good.

Vince Staples - Cry Baby

DAY 12 OF REVIEWING EVERY SINGLE ESSENTIAL RAP ALBUM

I think Cry Baby was amazing. Vince showed how good political rap and rock music sound together. He also does a great job rapping and producing. This album talks a lot about how terrible the state of America is to live in. By telling the story of how black people have to defend themselves because the cops do nothing and cops killing innocent black people because of their skin. Also, through the cover, showing a fat baby (most likely to ... read more

Today’s is Salt-N-Pepa’s Hot, Cool & Vicious, released on December 1, 1986. The album was good. It had a fair amount of highlights especially when it came to rapping. DAY 9 OF REVIEWING EVERY SINGLE ESSENTIAL RAP ALBUM

Today’s is Beastie Boys’ Licensed to Ill, released on November 15, 1986. This LP was great. I had a great time listening to this album. The Beastie Boys really showed not only their lyricism but also flow, experimentation, and hooks. Especially, on “Paul Revere” with the reverse beat and “Brass Monkey” with the rhythmically timed saxophone. They really showed how good they are on their debut LP.

DAY 8 OF REVIEWING EVERY SINGLE ESSENTIAL RAP ALBUM

Today’s is Run-D.M.C.’s Raising Hell, released on May 15, 1986. This LP is great. “Raising Hell” by Run-D.M.C. shows how good rap and rock elements are together. Both of these elements appear on “Walk This Way” and the self-titled track, “Raising Hell”. Also, help make hip hop music mainstream with “It’s Tricky”. This project is why hip hop stands to this day.

DAY 7 OF REVIEWING EVERY SINGLE ESSENTIAL RAP ALBUM

Today’s is Grandmaster Flash’s The Source, released on March 2, 1986. This LP by THE Grandmaster Flash is good. He and his team did really well on this project. They are able to have multiple elements of music in the project. That’s what I like about this project. But, it can get boring after a while. Flash barely never changes his flow and it gets repetitive after a period of time. But, anyways this LP is good. It’s ... read more

DAY 6 OF REVIEWING EVERY SINGLE ESSENTIAL RAP ALBUM

Today’s is L.L. COOL J’s Radio, released on November 18, 1985. Based off the user rating being a 66 , I thought it would be a mid album but it ended up being really good in my opinion. I love how Cool J was able to mix multiple genres in this LP. Especially on, “Rock the Bells” with the metal sample. Also, the R&B influence on, “I Want You”. This really shows how important LL COOL J is to rap.

Today’s is Mantronix’s The Album, released on May 4, 1985. The album is good. Mc Tee and Mantronix did really well on this project. They were able to mix electronic music with hip-hop, especially on, “Needle to the Groove”. They are 2 discs to this LP, the first being titled “This Side” and the second being “That Side”. DAY 4 OF REVIEWING EVERY SINGLE ESSENTIAL RAP ALBUM

Today’s is Schoolly D’s self-titled LP, released on April 17, 1985. This album is good. Schoolly D had good rapping and beats were good too. This is probably the first gangsta rap album, (I think) maybe more before this but idk. But, either way, this LP is good and helped popularize the gangsta rap style through the single, “P.S.K. What Does It Mean?”.

DAY 3 OF REVIEWING EVERY SINGLE ESSENTIAL RAP ALBUM

Today’s is Run-D.M.C.’s King of Rock, released on January 21, 1985. The LP is mid. It felt like a snooze fest while listening. The only tracks that stood out were the self-titled track and Darryl and Joe (Krush-Groove 3). Besides those, the album is bland. While, this album and group in total are essential to hip-hop/rap in it’s entirety, this album is repeat, mid.

DAY 2 OF REVIEWING EVERY SINGLE ESSENTIAL RAP ALBUM

Today’s is Run-D.M.C.’s self-titled LP, released on March 27, 1984. This LP is good, I like the many different sounds they used to make the album, “Run-D.M.C.”, work. The sounds including bells, drums, and especially the guitar on “Rock Box”. You absolutely can’t deny the fact that this is essential for the rap game. It inspired many artists who which would go on to inspire even more people down the ... read more

Today’s is Kurtis Blow’s self-titled LP, released on September 29, 1980. This album is where rap started and launched into the mainstream media. Kurtis Blow does amazing on this album. This new album by Peggy is great. On EXPERIMENTAL RAP, he really tries to push that name, this is shown by the mix of Hip Hop and Dubstep with a little bit of gospel here and there. Also, good features from DATPIFFMAFIA and Buzzy Lee. Especially, Buzzy Lee, her singing is immaculate on Bridges on Fire, It feels like you’re floating to the gates of heaven.

There are great songs on here including ¥ (Yen), TSAR BOMBA, and especially Pop this Heat.
