I wish they put as much time into every track as they clearly did the first 3 in the EP. There's still good stuff in here otherwise. But it's just the thing where, while there is cool stuff here, most songs are overshadowed by other parts being underdeveloped. Like in day 2, the first solo sounds like a first take... the rest of the song is great though. My complaints go deeper in other songs, where for the most part, while there are good bones, it's sometimes just the bones. ... read more
Short and sweet, daunting and droning. The guitar on Woe Unto Us sounds like an earlier version of Trespassers W, but the ambience is completely different. While I get why it's the top rated song on this EP, I think The Icon And The Axe is one of HANL's overlooked gems. Slow and droning, maybe, but if you have the patience to sit with the somewhat lengthy 6 minute track, and really embrace the ambience, it's everything I love about HANL.
The ability to sit with misery, and the ... read more
This album has a ton going on at all times; I mean noise is in the genre name. The thing is though, it's excellent in depth, not just a blaring wall of sound. Beneath the blown out drums and at times screaming vocalist, there is a ton going on, and everything is mixed incredibly well, letting you hear the full vision of their sound.
This is such an awesome album, and despite its long runtime, there's never truly a dull moment, constantly bouncing between a gentler voice on the verge ... read more
The Cure's defining gothic album... no goth pop like they're usually known for. This album is dreary and dark, dragging you into its ghoulish world. While shorter than what they'd later be known for, this stands tall as one of their most solid albums, oozing with everything which makes The Cure great.
Absolutely amazing tracklist, and I'm not even into synthpop in the slightest. But this album is so fun and unique, obviously super creative, and so filled with bangers that I think many are generally overlooked. This is one of those albums that transcends genre, and is just generally amazing... thank u magalena bay....
This is very typical soundscape type music. Very fuzzy, as other people are mentioning, and maybe that fuzz gets a bit too much for my taste... but does it do its job to create a surreal tone? Absolutely.
I think this album has some really good moments, like in track 2 I really like the raking melody beneath the distortion, and I won't absolutely diss the fuzz and really noise rock as a whole, but soundscapes are easier to fall into without a suuper thick wall of noise. I want to be able ... read more
yea these tones are so def
i think these might be some def tones
def like these tones
you must be TONE def if you don't think these tones are def!!!
these def tones are pretty def (tones)
I don't know if I prefer the demos more than I prefer the final releases. Heavily debatable. I just know that this album hits when you're laying in bed and staring at the ceiling.
I will say, every song here which ended up on Sea of Worry, I do prefer the demo versions. Especially Destinos, holy shit, it's so much more haunting in comparison. Really, all of the songs on this demo have an incredibly oppressive and dark atmosphere. So much to love about that, and I love this ... read more
back to back bangers, sorry for being genrephobic grard way. held out on MCR for way longer than i should've
literally love this album. this is intermediate guitarist heaven, songs are so fun to learn and play. and everything else is awesome too ig...
Just a really fun album. I think the stand-out is his voice, where I almost feel like the instrumentals are only there to compliment his voice... which I guess makes sense, but in the realest way, the vocals are amazing. Super fun and unique. The melodies are fantastic, the lyrics are easy to follow along and also fun while simultaneously divulging the consistent theme
In the weirdest way, the most negative aspect of this album to me is that it can get almost boring without vocals
Which is ... read more
sort of reminds me of vacations
the only real problem i have with this song is the mixing, and maybe how jangly the guitar can be doesn't rlly fit how flowy the vocals are... still not bad tho
From easily relatable to like, I dunno, interesting? The lyrical focus is, just as their future releases posit, not afraid to take on perspectives which aren't typically focused on in music. I mean, I won't put in a lot of my own commentary on what I think each song means, but I think it's all done very well.
I lied, I'll say a little (a lot. scroll if u wanna just see abt the sound).
From easily relatable, like Piled Up, putting focus on depression through the lens of ... read more
I could listen to this album a billion more times and I still wouldn't feel capable of speaking on it. I don't know what I can add other than, listen to it. Some really unique perspectives on top of some really unique sounds. Beautiful is what I'd call it, and somehow nostalgic through and through. Makes me think of camping in the snow...
I've listened to this album probably at least twice a week since it came out, maybe more, and it's really hard to get tired of the ... read more
Honestly I really like some of these songs and parts within them, but where the melodies and vocals made up for the lyrical quality entirely for me in their other releases (in cases where it was lacking), the chorus in, for instance, Believe Me, is super repetitive and leans pretty heavily into something I feel like I'd hear in a Disney movie from like the early 2000s, if that makes sense. I mean, I do appreciate the inspiration from more traditional rock with more dissonant ... read more
A super disorienting sound, interesting lyrical lens, and some seriously catchy songs and instrumentals. Some of it gets a little bit too industrial/noise rock for me, where the sound can blend a bit too much together in a sort of cacophony rather than anything well defined. Still, like the singer and the guitar throughout, and mostly like the atmosphere which is still thick in a similar (but I want to say colder) way to their other EP
Still love kittyriff and skinny/baby tho
