It’s so fantastic. Everything is so lush and instrumentally dense as these songs wander through odd structures and genuinely tear-jerking melodies. The lyricism is just as good as Isaac’s was, with the 3 songwriters singing in such a cohesive way that it isn’t jarring in the slightest. It straddles the line of being twee so well that it’s hard to believe that this is band coming newly formed. Deserves many, many listens. Everything is a highlight.
A wild album that defies description. Goes into surprisingly electronic/avante-garde territories. The styles between these two bands match up so well, and the riffs and sludgy bass lines are just so good. Highlights include Some Kind of AntiChrist, Nine Days of Rain, Rip the God, and Stealing Horses.
I typically don’t rate or review live albums, but I’ve been listening to this nonstop and can’t fathom it being anything but a 10. This is album is relentlessly brutal and punishing, practically being 73 minutes of some of the harshest noise rock ever put to tape without respite. Gita is absolutely screaming his brains out, and his lyrics focus on the dehumanization of labor under modern capitalism. Who can’t relate? This is a hypnotizing and cathartic album that is ... read more
Holy dissonance. This is black metal like nothing I’ve ever heard. Far closer to gorguts than to darkthrone. The vocals are awesome and really mesh well with the riffs, even if the production does get muddy at some points. How do you even talk about the riffs? I can’t besides from warning that they will hit you in places you didn’t think music could hit. Really nothing wrong with this besides the mixing, which isn’t lofi enough to be atmospheric but isn’t hifi ... read more
Pretty beautiful folk album with great writing. I wish there was a little more differentiation from song to song, but you can’t ask for much with the budget. I absolutely love the drone that is omnipresent throughout, it gives the album a clear, semi-morbid through-line. Favorites include The Best Ever…, Color In Your Cheeks, Pink And Blue, and Source Decay.
Genuinely shocked based on my hatred for Preacher's Daughter. I prefer the ambient/drone cuts to the slowcore-inspired ones, though. I really, REALLY hope this is the future of Ethel Cain. Highlights include "Perverts", "Pulldrone", and "Vacillator".
Wow. 1000 Albums listened to. What a journey. And no better album to mark it with than this gargantuan, epic pop album. What a complete smorgasbord of genres, styles, and attitudes about love. The witty lyrics manage to keep fresh the singular concept for nearly 3(!) hours. Super catchy and immaculately produced, with the odd exception of “Abigail,” which has a ridiculously annoying pan the background which all but makes the song unlistenable. Ranges from vexatiously saccharine to ... read more
I don't really get it. Maybe more noise listening is needed to contextualize this, and maybe I jumped straight into the deep end. Highlights include Woodpecker No. 2.
I don't really love the refrain in March of the Pigs. That's the only complaint I can manage. What a tortured and cathartic album. Highlights include everything BUT March of the Pigs.
Paysage uses brutal repetition to create a cold and oppressive atmosphere that is psychedelic, hypnotizing, and impressively dark. Despite this, melodic moments tend to break up the simplistic song structures (not a bad thing), creating a suprising amount of dynamics for a black metal album. Highlights include Welt aus Eis and Gefrorener Atem.
Ambition needs to match song-writing skills or else you end up with something like this.
Unimaginably bad. The worst tropes of industrial rock, combined with awful vocals and the worst pop songwriting you will ever hear. The riffs are stale and the production feels like it is trying to drown you with how overbearing it is. I had no clue it was possible to process and mix vocals this poorly. Not to mention the 20-minute-long prog-brick in the middle of the already over-inflated tracklist. Some of the worst lyrics I've ever heard, but the bronie musician and cover art should ... read more
One of the best pop albums I have heard in a long time. Such a well-produced, energetic, and sexy album. The fusion of industrial with dance-pop usually leaves me rolling my eyes, but this album gets me really excited about the future of Debby Friday. Highlights include: Good Luck, I Got It, Hot Love, Heartbreakerrr, Let U Down, and Pluto Baby.
This shit so ass 😭 The last song is a contender for worst of the past decade
