been sitting on this album for about 8 months now. finally decided it’s a perfect 10 for me.
so i’ve been following this band for about two and a half years now, but i’ve been pretty on and off about their music for the last six months.
despite discovering them in 2023 with the release of ‘take me back to eden’ - the album that seemed to take over the metal scene, i thought it was their weakest project yet.
it lacked any of the charm or polish that their previous work had, but i was determined to stick around for their next full length release, even engaging ... read more
finally did my first listen of this album and i can honestly say that i kind of understand why it got some hype on release.
it’s a far cry from a perfect pop album, and some might say the aesthetic was borrowed from other underground pop veterans, but for what it’s worth - i can’t name many mainstream artists who’d do such a 180 when switching their image.
this project has some earwormy production moments scattered throughout, but what holds it back the most are the ... read more
you just know the most annoying gay man is gonna say this is aoty. that gay man would be me.
got curious about this because i saw charli xcx has a writing credit on “bluest flame”…
and i mean the song is good, but it absolutely does not fit in with the rest of the album, especially with those sophie-esque samples.
to me selena has always been a very non-descript artist. sure she has commercial success and can put out a banger song every once in a blue moon, but she is probably one of the least consistent main pop girls.
that being said, i actually found myself not ... read more
is indie-psychedelia a genre? if not, they should invent it for this album specifically.
saw a lot of people gassing this up and had to tap in and let me say - i definitely see where the hype is coming from. it’s a pretty relaxing listen, but by the last three songs, the guitar was starting to lull me to sleep a little.
i can see myself coming back to this for sure, especially when the weather starts to get warmer and the brain starts receiving more happy chemicals from the sunshine. a ... read more
some of the crispiest screams and “bleghs” i’ve heard recently.
this band has been on my radar for a little while now and i saw they were releasing an album the same day as spiritbox so this was as good a time as any to finally get into them.
i don’t often gravitate towards deathcore (nothing against it, i just listen to it in small doses), but this was so good, i was kind of gagging the entire time.
the instrumentation and the vocal performance blew me away. ... read more
i kind of don’t have a whole lot to say about this. it’s pretty non-descript for an album with 30 tracks. i enjoyed the beats on most of the songs and if there was any reason to come back to this project (there aren’t many), that’d be one of them.
overall, it’s pretty underwhelming, bloated and lyrically dull, but i liked the kendrick features.
baby’s first ever xiu xiu album and while i was completely blown away by the outlandish production choices, it’s really the lyrics that make this album as great as it is. when going into a first listen, i tend to focus more on the instrumentals, the beat and how the tracks mend together overall, rather than trying to dissect the lyrics, but i kept getting pulled in by the dramatic vocals, which actually made me focus on the writing of this album and this genuinely might be one of ... read more
going into this i expected an album full of electropop bangers and to be fair, she started out really strong, but about 9 tracks in is where she fell on her face.
i’m not completely against stripped down ballads, however, i feel like they don’t work for an album like this, or at least for me they don’t. the track list is unnecessarily long and every time a ballad came on, i was sitting through it waiting for the next song that was hopefully gonna rescue this mess. that song ... read more
she is loud, but damn, she is fun.
i have been really seeking out a lot of throwback y2k albums lately for some reason and realised that i’ve actually never listened to this gem.
the track list is a little bloated, but overall each song has a little moment to keep me from getting bored throughout this project. i know christina often gets flack for her voice or how loud she is, but honestly if i had a voice like hers - i would never stfu.
in conclusion - great album and i can see why it ... read more
i honestly don’t really know what to say, i’m still in shock… this was astounding. not only is this an album of the year contender, but also potentially one of my favourite metalcore albums, like ever.
to say “they brought their a game” on this project is a huge understatement. it’s so exciting to see how the band has evolved over the years and they still continue to impress with every project they put out.
everything about this is incredible, from the ... read more

i would like to apologise to mother monster and the gays… i was wrong. i am putting my puppy paws up to the sky…
honestly, i’m not sure what i was expecting, but it wasn’t this. the whole project feels so lacklustre it’s actually kind of hard to pinpoint the things i dislike about it, except for the dated production and the fact that i could go to any other gaga album and hear basically the same tracks that are on here, just better. ... read more
honestly, going into this - i wasn’t expecting much, since this is a band i’ve never heard of before, but this was a pleasant surprise! a pretty heavy metalcore album that still contains a good amount of melodies and sounds to latch on to.
will certainly be returning to this project and possibly checking out the rest of this band’s discography.
