I feel the need to separate the art from the artist for this one. But not in the way you think. Peggy is one of my favorite artists of all time and while he can be petty and annoying I don’t really have a problem with him as a person. When we like an artist we tend to always find the good in their work. Also because of our past enjoyment we put more effort into dissecting and trying to appreciate their newer work. I say all this to say if this album was released be anyone else I would ... read more
Meh
I don’t feel like discussing the context of this album. If you care go do your own research and gather your own opinion.
At its best this album feels like Wrest’s demos mixed with more experimental ideas. At its worst it feels like Wrest is kneecapping everything that makes his music so punishing to make boring experimental black metal that just stumbles around until it ends.
Favorite tracks: True Whore, Shed this Skin, Brought up by this Bottom
Worse tracks: Contrary Pulse, ... read more
I wouldn’t rate this. If the point of Black Metal is to frighten the listener then this is the most successful black metal album I have ever listened to. As a Christian I have been able to enjoy black metal by appreciating the emotion and atmosphere, if there are lyrics that oppose my beliefs I can usually write it off as some edgelord trying to shock people. In most cases the satanic lyrics are surfaces level and pretty cringy.
Satan cannot create and can only try to pervert what is ... read more
If I had a nickel for every black album with a creepy face with either the artist or album named after a relationship with a female in a family, I would have two nickels.
Ghost but Good
I was in my local record shop and I say this album on cd. The cover reminded me of YWGWYW by Daughters, so I gave it a listen. Needless to say I left with the cd and this album in my rotation.
Two USBM legends that usually outshine whoever else they are with. And the first half of this split Scott looks like he is going to wash Wrest. Xasthur lays down some of his most hateful and cold music he has ever created. Then Wrest comes in, and in just two songs somehow rivals Scott.
This split is just two legends bringing the best out of each other. If you like any black metal or interested in anything involving USBM give this split a listen.
Darkthrone doing what they do best
Favorite track: Transylvanian Hunger
Maybe the true friends are the butterflies we pimped along the way
Basically it’s if Grace and Some Rap songs had a baby.
One of the best albums of the decade and will more than likely be my aoty. Booker and Kenny give beautiful and haunting production, while Booker gives a tender and gorgeous performance. Cannot recommend enough
Hold up, I will review after the guitar solo.
Review: cover is trash, album is pretty good
Scaring the Bros
If anyone but Peggy made this it would be considered a cult classic. It just happens to be overshadowed in his insane back catalogue
Feels like giving a homeless man some instruments, he then creates some of the most beautiful music ever, then smashes the instruments
This might be a little high but this thing gets better every listen. It’s not just an album you can throw on whenever; but dang this hits when you are in the right mood. Al steps a bit out of his comfort zone and absolutely kills it and billy and Elucid just go off spitting bars on top of bars. Not to mention Stonefruit easily one of my favorite closers of all time.
As a 14yo father of 3 I had never really cared for hipping and or hopping but this album just reaffirms those beliefs.
Nothing worth of value. Zero replay ability, the only half decent song is City in the Sky but even then that is a worse version of the Yandi version. Husband is his most cringe song he has ever released. Bomb is unlistenable. Fried is a worse version of Carnival. Overall you get nothing out of this and Ye’s fall off needs to be studied
I swear if I have to listen to this song one my time I’m tossing the phone that plays it. It is the most generic edm country trash that is only popular because it is designed to be
No album has messed with me this much. You have to grapple with this album and when you come out in the other side you are left with one of the best experiences you can get out of any album ever
My goat. Easily in my top albums 10 of all time. The amount of great and memorable bars by Doom. Not to mention the top tier production leads this to be a must listen for any music enjoyer
I come back to this album a lot. This album is the end of a wonderful group and it is such a beautiful ending. This album is haunting yet so beautiful. If you can only listen to one album from 2021 this would be my pick. Rip Groggs and Injury Reserve
