Lot more variety than pretty hate machine and also more screamy/angry, though some beautiful moments throughout too ofc
i guess it makes sense it sounds like a reznor/ross soundtrack with lyrics on top, very depressing lyrics at that. interesting lyrics, interesting music, I liked it
lots of good neil songs but don't sound too different from their original versions
Hippie dippie and good sometimes, liked 'love earth' and 'i walk with you' and 'this old planet', but also just a little cloying and boring honestly
maybe not fair because these are some of his best songs all on one album in their full singer/songwriter acoustic glory. somehow did not realize until now powderfinger is one of the greatest songs ever
best neil young since pre-2000s, title track is a banger, don't know why we need 'florida' here though and 'we don't smoke it no more' is just okay. robbie robertson and 'white line' is mesmerizing
Beach Boys trying to do their Satanic Majesties/Sgt Peppers experimental thing and it's closer to Satanic Majesties. Not unpleasant to listen to but just not their best work. Heroes and Villains and Good Vibrations are spectacular, but then there's the rest of the album
don't know what they were thinking on this, the acoustic vibe is interesting but they're just laughing and talking over all the tracks and not taking them seriously. laughing and making fun of 'times are a changin' was the final straw. the worst beach boys album, just so annoying, and doesn't feel like full real songs
classic beach boys. You're so good to me is one of my faves
listening to pay tribute but gotta say this wasn't my cup of tea, just sounded more grating and annoying than good, and i like his style with the beach boys but not as much here
very strange attempt at like a concept album from JT, definitely does not quite work, the substance of the songs isn't there (chili dog) and the instrumentation is lacking
The one misfire for me is lady rain, which sounds like a zeppelin knock off, they're better sticking to what they're good at, those first four songs are an incredible run of bangers
classic JT all the way through, loved every second, this is the sound I was looking for
Mostly great songs, still a couple of okay ones mixed in there. title track is an all-timer ofc
Much better than his most recent album, just so pleasing to listen to and the lyrics are interesting
Starts off sounding okay and then he starts singing. Could be just a personal taste thing but couldn't stand this guy, he sounds like an angsty/whiny teen and it didn't work for me
Taylor's strengths are clearly his voice and lyrics, and I don't think he quite taps into that fully here, it's on display sometimes, but a couple of songs just have too much funky instrumentation that isn't that great and doesn't need to be there. Definitely less refined Taylor but his genius still comes through obviously in Something in the way she moves and Carolina and also loved Brighten Your night and a couple others
First couple songs are alright, there are some great ones with Hey Bulldog and All you need is love, and then you have the second half of the album. It sounds a bit like joe hisaishi mixed with mario kart and even some justin hurwitz in there, but it belongs as the soundtrack to a movie, not on a pop music album. I think there is a yellow submarine animated movie that i'm sure this would be a great soundtrack to, but on its own just not quite there.
Their best project since their debut album. The songwriting is back where it was on that album and the music sounds more folky instead of poppy, which some of their other projects have been too much of
