She has so much potential, but so much of this album is the same thing over and over again. Can't wait to see what she does next, though!
Coming off of NO HANDS, I thought that there was literally no way for JVB to lose going into this record, but, boy, was I wrong. This is by far their worst output yet. I respect how they're trying to get more introspective here, but it just does not work. The best way to describe this album is that it's as wide as an ocean, but only as deep as a puddle. They only truly shine when they're making party bangers, and it sucks that they have to be cornered into that niche like this, ... read more
EDIT: 75 --> 100
In the months since I returned to this record after his stellar Coachella performance earlier this year, SHINBANGUMI has infested itself within my mind, and I have become obsessed with not just the record itself, but the world and lore that it exists within. I've found immense comfort in it as well, with this being the primary record that I've turned to in the stress that has persisted within my life over this summer. SHINBANGUMI is just heart-wrenching hit after ... read more
I can see why someone would love this- the mellow vibes with Norah's wonderful voice are a fantastic pairing. But for some reason, instead of these adding up to feeling like a cozy coffee shop, it felt more like a dull open mic night. As the album went on, it got incredibly samish. Beyond the opener and the brief respite that was "I've Got To See You Again," I wouldn't be able to tell you the difference between one track and another for a majority of this record.
If the future is this dull and repetitive, then I'd much rather live in the present.
At first this starts out really fun! But then it kept going... And going... God, this album is long... And going... When does it end... Wasn't this song suppose to have Carti on it... Man that 21 feature sucked... Oh, thank god it's done.
My 500th rating! A very nice and pleasant mallsoft record, but nothing special within the genre.
Over the past few months of listening to this record after being recommended an Instagram post announcing the release of a CD for it, I continue to have my mind blown. Each song sounds so sporadic and improvised, yet so incredibly thought out. Each and every idea is fully explored, every nook and cranny dusted out and shined to perfection, exploring outward until it runs out of steam and explodes out into a supernova, only to throw you into the next idea to do it all over again. They took the ... read more
An endless hall of mirrors, falling through the floor into the glittery abyss as you lean over to peer deeper into the reflections. Repetition become repetitive as you sink further into the trance... down, down, down...
If Flume drops an extended version of that drop on Track 1, I will die a happy girl. Beyond that, the record is nothing special. Love to see men have hobbies, though.
At its best, it's fine. At its worst, which is most of the record, it's a waste of time. If you're a Ken Carson fan, I'm sure you'll love this. Otherwise, just listen to something else.
I knew the moment he started talking about cancel culture that it was over. This whole thing is eerily similar in tone to Run-DMC's "Crown Royal." Will Smith is a man past his prime trying way too hard to reach his former glory. He's crying out, begging to remain relevant, begging to have a piece of the game again, but all he can do is brag about his accomplishments from 30 years ago. The most tragic unc to ever live.
BASS MUSIC FOREVER, BITCH
I LOVE YOU SONNY MOORE
I felt a deep sense of calm while listening to this record. Everything about this just feels like the embodiment of a lazy day, one of the ones where you don't feel guilty about not getting anything done.
An incredible first endeavor. The mixing of electronic elements with raw screamo will never, ever get old.
Venetian Snares blew out my eardrums and all I could say was "thank you." An album to mindlessly flail to, amidst the chaos can be found some of the most brilliantly structured breakcore of all time. Nothing but kickass breaks and grooves across the whole record.
EDIT 31 --> 74
holy shit that original review was ROUGH. uhm, lets run that back
im not gonna get too deep into it now (i plan to actually do a long Tally Hall retrospective in the coming months), but tldr my opinion of this album has been greatly changed. i think its pretty good, and love quite a bit about it.
moral of the story is that Brad Taste did irreversible damage to the publics perception of the Tally Hall fandom and their music
