Music to start a revolution to
Fav tracks: Bombtrack, Killing In the Name, Know Your Enemy
I didn't expect Kendrick to say negus over and over again
Fave tracks: Wesley's Theory, King Kunta, These Walls, How Much a Dollar Cost, The Blacker the Berry, i
Beautiful songs that make me miss a love in California that I never actually had
Fav Tracks: Venice Bitch, Fuck it I love you, Happiness is a butterfly
Lots of great guitar solos. Most tracks sounded similar though, it felt like I was listening to different variations of the same song throughout the album.
Fav Tracks: What Do You Want from Me, Marooned, Keep Talking
Funky grooves, smooth vocals, and catchy hooks. This is real pop music.
Fav tracks: Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, Workin' Day and Night, Get On the Floor
Lots of fun instrumental solos throughout the album.
Fav tracks: Right On
Some of the tracks were too weird for me. There's a lot of meandering going on throughout the album.
Fav tracks: Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On), Once in a Lifetime
Prince has an incredible voice. Most of the tracks didn't shine on their own for me, but the highlights were really strong.
Fav tracks: Let's Go Crazy, Darling Nikki, Purple Rain
Really funky album. Enchanting vocals, smooth grooves, sweet bass lines.
Fav tracks: Cosmonogie, Me Da Igual
The tracks hit so hard. This album is really serious and gives a deep look into life in the drug slinging neighbourhoods of 90s NYC. Distinctive drums and beats throughout with angry bars.
Fav tracks: Survival of the Fittest, Give Up the Goods (Just Step), Up North Trip, Shook Ones, Pt. II
Really catchy hooks. Lots of unconventional instruments thrown in (bells, kazoos).
A lot of the songs felt like extended choruses. I would've liked if there was more to them, but this was probably a product of the time.
Fav tracks: Wouldn't It Be Nice, Here Today
Most of the tracks on this album are so short that they pass by before you know they've arrived. The instrumentals are creative and come from a wide array of instruments. The vocals are used as instruments too, with cuts and mashups of different vocalists throughout. It would've been nice if more of the tracks were longer and fleshed out.
Fav track: Bye.
I'm not too well-versed in hip-hop, but it was surprising to hear beats and bars like this on an album from 1991. If it wasn't for the lyrics where people kept talking about the current year of 1991 I felt like this could've been from the late 90s.
The beats were catchy but they're not the focus here. Q-Tip has incredible flow and just sounds great. Most of the songs were fun but there was a lot of commentary on contemporary issues in the black community. The supporting ... read more
I tried to go into this album with an open mind, but couldn't shake the feeling that the album art was off-putting. Maybe I would've felt differently had I listened to this without seeing the album art first.
Bjork clearly has an incredible voice and her vocal range really shines through across the album. That being said, the avant-garde sounds and instrument combinations throughout were grating to me. There were only a few tracks that I actually enjoyed. Most of the album felt like ... read more
This album is 1.5h long across only 4 tracks. Each track feels less like a song and more like the retelling of a story through music. The tracks all have these incredibly long buildups and comedowns, but don't feel boring. Although I enjoyed them all it was difficult for me to pinpoint a highlight. This album feels like it's meant to be part of your environment and atmosphere.
This album really blew me away. Song after song hit so hard, and I kept recognizing a song I had heard of before or that had been reworked into another (Gangsta's Paradise and Wild Wild West). I love disco and funk, and it's clear from listening to it that this album had a big influence on the genres. Despite being so long the album never felt boring. I knew this album would be great but it was still way better than I expected.
This album starts out strong and just keeps going. The drums, guitar riffs, solos, horns, and harmonies were really fun. Reminded me a lot of Cowboy Bepop.
There was a track in the middle that sounded like the band were testing their instruments, but it didn't sound too out of place
I generally like rap and there were some fun tracks but I couldn't get into all of them. The instrumentals were great and the bars were creative. Fancy Clown and America's Most Blunted were the highlights for me.
