The singing is once again pretty good, and the instrumental is completely agreeable, if nothing special. The lyrics to this song are of course based on the well known nursery rhyme, but that doesn't really bother me.

A big step up from the previous number one "Poor little fool"
"Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu (Volare)" has a pleasant instrumental, and the singing is also pretty good. I can't really comment on the songs subject matter, since it's sung in italian.
I can't really think of any complaints I have for this song.
All in all, I give it a 80/100.

So, the first ever US number one hit and it's sadly pretty mediocre.
"Poor little fool" isn't terrible or anything, but at the same time neither the instrumental nor the singing are anything to write home about.
The "Poor, poor, poor little fool, I was a fool, oh yeah" bit repeated by the background singers also get's pretty annoying in my opinion.

I think my favourite thing about the album is how it's produced, I really don't know of any other music from the late eighties that sounds like this. Of course Janet sings well too.
The interludes that are all over the album don't really do much for me, but at the same time I don't really feel that they "get in the way" of the rest of the album either.

One of my favourite albums. Stevie sings well, the instrumentals on almost all songs are awesome, and I'm not one that pays much attention to lyrics, but I guess their good too. Still the album has some minor issues, which is why I won't give it a full 100/100. For one, I think some songs, especially on the second disc are just too long. "Another star" for example really doesn't have to be 8 and a half minutes long. I also just don't like some of the songs from the "A something's ... read more
