Don't get me wrong, it's great, but there are definitely enough standout flaws for me to subtract 12 points. Institutionalized doesn't really hit for me like the other tracks on a sonic level (although the lyrics are still great), and it still feels slightly repetitive. Similar complaints for Mortal Man (although the premise is great), plus the strange MJ bar. Aside from that, a lot of songs have at least segments that don't feel perfect, or parts where it kind of feels like ... read more
Not quite as hard hitting for me as Dogsbody but still a great, boundary-pushing effort from Model/Actriz.
You're sitting in a small boat in the middle of a lake. It doesn't feel great, despite the tranquility. The strongest pain isn't the loss—it's every day with that absence. Hard to bring yourself to say "I'm doing good" but you can honestly say "I'm doing better." Sometimes you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, but you know there has to be one. You'll get through it.
Thought I would like this more when I heard the first chorus but it kind of never hits a big rise which is disappointing. Lyrics are ~, verses are alr. Chorus is pretty though.
thought I would like this more than I did because I like a lot of shoegaze, industrial rock, and noise pop. still pretty good though.
Not a bad song on here. Phenomenal. Flows remind me of Tyler, The Creator and Ameer Vann of Brockhampton. Every single verse either comes with a ton of energy or a laid-back, contemplative flow. I really like the sampling techniques used to make every song have a unique, powerful atmosphere.
No way this is green. This song pisses me off so much.
lowkey don't have much to say about this album as a whole besides Story 2 except that I really like Intro, Body&Blood, and Taking Off. Also Tonight is really bad I'm ngl.
Now onto Story 2. This may be the greatest hip hop song of all time. The production is phenomenal. There are, I believe four different time signatures (whenever the like crash cymbal or whatever plays it switches), each repeated twice which gives you this feeling of anxiety building over your entire ... read more
This is potentially the worst song I've ever heard in my entire life. I literally can't stomach listening to the entire song, and it's like two minutes. That's crazy. I can't even listen to it on mute either, because the music video features the WORST THING EVER CREATED. THAT IS NO CREATURE OF GOD, THAT IS THE SPAWN OF THOSE WHO HAVE LOST THEIR WAY AND THOSE WHO HAVE LOST THEIR WAY ALONE.
You’re joshing me if you think the blacker the berry is better than this. It’s so meaningless and stupid. Who tf is looking at berries going “ohhh how BLACK is this” in order to determine the sweetness of its juice. Total strawman nobody thinks that.
summary: To be clear, I'm not being lenient whatsoever in this review just because you are a fellow AOTY user. All these track ratings represent the track ratings I would give to any other artist. I think there is potential to grow regarding the lyrics. I personally have a difficult time relating to them often, and I feel like that may be because they aren't layered or developed enough. Melodies are generally solid, and the instrumentation ranges from good to phenomenal across the ... read more
used to be really into YFM. this may be the only song they made that still sounds good to me. and the sequels are absolute abominations of nonsense.
This is horrorcore. Please debate me in the comments if you disagree because I genuinely don't even see the counterargument.
