Gira still had so much to accomplish with Swans, from proto-pigfucker to slick goth-pop to nihilistic drone to his current symphonies of cosmic transgression and dread. But with Filth, he opened up the Earth with his teeth, blackened and bloody, ready to begin.
This is it folks. I had to stop it multiple times because I was about to break down in tears. This might be the new 'heaviest' album to beat. And I do mean beat.
I feel like listening to this album is the equivalent of Michael Gira coming to my house with a baseball bat, smacking me over 50 times, stomping on my face, pulling out my teeth, breaking my legs, killing my pets, pissing on my furniture, cutting my shoe lasses, burning my house down and fucking my mother all at the same time. HEAVY AS FUCK!
This album was way ahead of it's time and it is fucking great, this is a great mix of heavy and enjoyability compared to something like COP. Stay Here is a perfect introduction into Swans No Wave era, and Power For Power is probably the best No Wave song I've ever listened to. Only complaint is that this album kinda falls off on the second half and the last two tracks are a little boring but it is still good. Plus this album is super political and has aged like fine wine.
