Really enjoyed this track. I prefer the video version of this song because it doesn't have the outro that's on the album version. On the official release, Larry talks about a homie fresh out of jail that wanted to rap but changed his mind after a few months-- doesn't really add to the song...plus theres a weird phone call to a woman at the end?
Larry June and The Alchemist present The Great Escape: An album of 15 mostly strong tracks. You can tune into this album and get some motivation, visions of the material wealth acquired through hustle-- but you can also listen to this album and relax. This is luxury chill rap at it's finest, i'm not sure you can point to a better example.
A masterful album that is totally underrated and overlooked because of how opulent it is. Still, the album has nearly perfectly crafted verses, vivid imagery, triumphant battle chants, it just has an ending that seems to try cram in obligatory "songs for the girls". If Rick Ross committed 100% to an albums concept and theme with insane/unforgiving obsession he'd be a much stronger artist overall.
Even Ross's mixtape that came before this album: Rich Forever, suffers from ... read more
A collection of solid pop songs. Run it Down and Flow are the highlights here. Otherwise the EP is fairly mundane. Tracks would work as background music in a sneaker store.
A really strong EP from PND. There are no bad songs on this album but track 2 can get a skip on most playthroughs. When it shines, it shines bright like on TBH.
A very special and unique album. The songs are diverse and focus on their strengths. This work is a great example of where pop meets art meets hip hop. There's concept, a loose narrative (that i think came with an actual script on release), immaculate production, introspection, existential revelations, social commentary. Incredibly ambitious but somehow it all works out. Plus the album has aged incredible well. This is cinema.
A solid effort in Yeat's discography but theres not enough cohesion, brevity, or precision and therefore fails to be as good as it could be. There are some great tracks on this record: GONE 4 A MIN, SO WHAT, GOD TALKIN SHHH. This is some of the best the current move toward experimental, rage, trap rap has to offer.
Will Smith is weak on the pen. The production on this album is actually tolerable and solid in some sections. The mixing is good too. Despite this, the album is 10 years too late in it's sound and subject matter. This drop wouldve made since during Macklemore's peak or when Hopsin first started gaining traction on youtube in 2012. Now this is totally outdated, lacks self awareness, and is really just unbelievably bad.
SWAG has a few standout moments over the 21 tracks. All I Can Take, First Place, and 405 are all strong songs that deserve many spins. But practically the rest of the album is totally void of any meaning or personality. It works great as an inoffensive album you'd play in the background at a social gathering but not an album that you'd want to listen to attentively. It isn't very good.
So much to be said about this album. This song is only 12 tracks, no filler, has some vaporwave, ambient elements, some dark trap vibes. This EP is so innovative for the time period, so underrated and probably the best that OVO has ever released. Its very methodical, great samples, just a very unique project all around. If I were to show anyone what the ideal 2014 R&B project sounds like, it's this. It's so futuristic and so internet. The song "Grown Woman" is probably ... read more
An extremely influential album for the 2010s. There are some filler tracks: Skyfall, Zombies, Sloppy Toppy which are a sharp detour from the autotuned epic travis was building. Other than that, the mixtape has plenty of great moments. One of his better works.
Chance’s facial expression on the cover represents the sound of the album perfectly: confusing, timid, depressing, and concerning.
Chance the Rapper is an artist who relies way too much on his strongest skill set: poetic, non-offensive wordplay that makes a listener think, “oh that was witty,” before moving on to the rest of the five-minute track with shoehorned choruses. Choruses, of course, make a song memorable, but without them, you may notice the verses from Chance have ... read more
One of the greatest mixtapes ever made. A couple bad songs but the rest is sublime.
Absolute perfection. Specifically the extended version with the piano intro.
Alfredo 2 — an album with incredible, relaxing production, good vocal performances, but ultimately very middle-of-the-road in its content and insight.
Fancy That is a collection of 9, meticulously produced, funk and dance UK pop songs full of charm and nostalgic atmosphere.
