I have to admit that I enjoyed this more than several Rush albums (a band that Crown shamelessly plagiarizes).
It doesn't quite reach the heights of Sepultura's classics, but it's an excellent album. I wasn't expecting anything and found some good music. Spectacular riffs aren't abundant, but there are a few. The weak point: the drums. They're not as striking as on Sepultura.
I enjoyed the instrumental tracks much more. They're better crafted, different, and feel like a cosmic journey. It's the first time I've liked the instrumental tracks more on an album.
What a pleasant surprise, an amazing album. One of the best of the year. It's a lighter version of Ulcerate (though still heavy). More accessible for more sensitive listeners. Instrumentally, it's a gem. The instruments create an atmospheric, oppressive sound. They blend seamlessly with the vocals, giving birth to something truly unique.
The first time I heard this album, I gave it a 77. How stupid I was. Today I listened to it again and I think it's a thrash masterpiece.
It's one of the strangest and most rewarding musical experiences I've ever heard. The damn vocals are what complicate everything. Instrumentally, Primus are masters, not just the bass. All the instruments. The percussion creates a unique atmosphere. Over time, the vocals become a hallmark of the music, so you start to understand them.
I don't have much to say. It delivers exactly what you expect from metalcore. Their newer work is better, more unique, and less generic than this. Still, it's a good album.
I love it when a band doesn't settle for repeating formulas and unleashes their creativity, mixing sounds that most wouldn't combine and releasing albums like this. Very unique (compared to most metal). Entertaining and artistic. It's the first time I've heard the band, but I'll keep listening until they break up.
Powerful and melodic guitars with a variety of riffs and scales are what you'll find on this album. Great songwriting on par with the greats of melodic metal. I recommend it. Better than any Arch Enemy record.
It had been years since I'd enjoyed a traditional heavy metal album this much. I understand why it's considered a classic. It has everything you could ask for in heavy metal: great riffs, great drums, and great vocals. You don't need anything more.
Nothing original, but super fun to listen to. There's a lot of melody; they keep changing and adding layer upon layer of depth to the songs. Vocally, it's more of the same. The greatness lies in the instruments. Recommended.
I listened to it without any context; I didn't know what genre they played or anything. That element of surprise was positive because when I listened to the album, I was able to marvel at every note, setting aside any preconceived notions about genres. The songs are very different from each other. The band finds an idea, develops it, and then abandons it to move on to something else.
It's the least "post" post-metal album I've ever heard. The songwriting is simple but effective. The music offers a fun collection of songs that won't stand out as a major musical revelation. Even so, they'll provide an enjoyable time.
It gives off a cosmic horror vibe because you constantly feel lost and don't know what's going on. You feel like your brain isn't capable of interpreting the sounds you're hearing. I never thought I'd hear a 30-minute song that not only didn't bore me but also amazed me at every turn. This is a long album, one that requires patience. It will reward you if you're patient. It offers unique musical combinations. The more you listen, the more your knowledge of ... read more
I listened to it expecting nothing metalcore, nothing similar to Sempti, Post Human, or Suicide; that it was going to be an alternative rock/metal album, and yet it still disappointed me. As a rock album, it's boring.
