Love all you guys here man. You were all so genuinely receptive to my Balloonerism review. I want to stress that while I'd LOVE to hear people's opinions on this, this is so deeply personal to me that I likely won't budge on this. Reccing to some great people who I think will take it well and give good responses. I see something in myself here that is so raw, and that comes through in how specific i see the genre tags bc to me this is the SOUL of music, and the backbone of songs ... read more
Incredibly consistent, and the vibes are immaculate; it almost feels like you're absorbing the album rather than listening to it.
It actually manages its length well, it doesn't drag its feet even by the end of the hour long runtime. The instrumentation is well done, and the guitar tones are fantastic.
Bringing this album down for me is the complete lack of any good hook on any track. Despite it not being "same-y", a lot of the record just ran together for me by the end. ... read more
I was given glimpses of hope throughout the first half, but was unfortunately left with incredibly boring and generic pop rock fused with stomp clap music for for the rest.
On Top of the World sounds like he's singing over royalty free phone hold music.
Nothing here is offensively bad, it's just aggressively mediocre and boring.
Absolutely gorgeous collaboration; Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak is a match made in heaven, and I think this album might be the choir of the angels up there.
This album gets FUNKY, and it is as smooth as butter. The vocals are just incredible. I was a little disappointed with the Thundercat feature; it's a great song, but I didn't pick up on any of his energy on the track. I also felt like the back half of the album did not carry the pure magic of the first half.
That all being ... read more
The curtains are just blue sometimes; be forgiving of this record and it's flawed but no comparison is 100% unjustified
This is one of the few times where I really do strongly disagree with Fantano. This album reminds of of Aenima in a lot of ways not only with it's heaviness, but the way it experiments as well. I really hate this push that TOOL is "fake deep" or "pretentious", because I feel a lot of the time people REALLY ARE just missing the point lol. I could go on for literal hours about my feelings on Aenima and Lateralus, and however you feel about how intentional they are with ... read more
