So far up to Pray, it's quite emotional, Cordae is a great writer, but I feel like the songs with features are a bit too reliant on them, great so far, will update when I've finished.
It took me a while to get into Thug but I'm really glad I did. Thug's flows are consistently great, he is a surprisingly good writer which is normally rare in Trap.
I think I was expecting Guwop to be a high energy track with crazy flows from everyone, which is why I was slightly disappointed, but it's still great and a nice chill cut. Harambe has the potential to be incredible but that delivery is really grating to me. Thug might be tied with Future for the GOAT of Trap.
This project introduced me to both Action Bronson and Boldy James, who both gave incredible performances, and left a really good impression on me.
This project also proved to me that The Alchemist is the greatest producer of all time. The soundscape is consistently beautiful and relaxing, Larry June has some solid deliveries on this. While it's great throughout, the album really picks up after Orange Village. The features were consistently great, Big Sean did well but unfortunately is ... read more
It really just feels a lot of the same thing we've always heard but with even more intro, I hope Still Praying is better
I know that I can learn to love this album and likely as I revisit it, it will eventually be a perfect album, but initially, I preferred the explosive tracks that we got snippets of like St. Chroma, Noid and Thought I Was Dead, so I kinda went into it expecting that throughout, but even then quieter / more relaxed cuts like Judge Judy are incredible, and Hey Jane is probably Tyler's best-written track ever.
Edit: It's sat with me for a while and it's now perfect.
Jesus Christ this was definitely some songs, Future went on some crazy runs here, some great tracks and performances, but some genuinely horrible performances on so many tracks here, the production is repetitive, and I found myself zoning out and missing entire songs because I missed when a new track came on, it sounds very much the same throughout, but it's not cohesive in any way, and cmon the lack of features, I can respect it but cmon, you have a song called Teflon Don without Rick ... read more
The more and more I listen to this album, the more I love it, every track is perfect and serves it's purpose, I love this album, it has gotten me through so much, thank you Kanye, we miss you...
It's good, but it doesn't particularly move me, it's not fun like Channel Orange was, or particularly engaging, not necessarily relevant to me, which absolutely alters my enjoyment of it, maybe I just need to go through a breakup to get it, will revisit if and when that happens.
That was my review of Blonde, which applies to this entirely if you swap Channel Orange for CTRL
Almost perfect, but the casual homophobia and extreme lyrics, and these truly are the most extreme lyrics I've ever heard, prevent it for being a perfect 100 for me
Edit: The quality of the rest of the album now compensate for the minor shortcomings, Big L would be considered on Jay-Z and Nas levels if he was still around.
Ultimately, I think track by track, this is on par with Astroworld, HOWEVER, Travis is incredible at creating consistent soundscapes, which he absolutely has on Astroworld, but not on this, on this, the sounds and instrumentals are scattered, they don't have a consistent sound which is where Travis thrives, and there was absolutely room to expand and change from Rodeo, with it having a similar, dark, gritty vibe, which he didn't do.

The tracks themselves vary from average to good, but overall this was a boring listen, which could've come off high expectations after Not Like Us was huge
Criminally underrated, I love the extreme production, heavy Tyler performances and a next level feature list.
