This is the most sinister and monstrous music I've heard in quite a while.
Although not in the way many metal bands try to be, instead Full of Hell & Primitive Man try a much slower and atmospheric approach to creating the feeling of "Suffocating Hallucination" which is maybe the most appropriate album title ever. It takes it's time and requires attention but once the unnerving sludge that is this project envelopes you it's easy to get lost in the world they have created here. ... read more
Got the chance to see Zulu the night they dropped this. The energy was unique and undeniable, they absolutely killed it. The band has a very eclectic mix of various styles of hardcore punk with splashes of Powerviolence and funky/jazzy interludes which makes for a very uniquely engaging experience. It may not be the most cohesive album experience and some ideas are more engaging than others but it's mostly excusable because of how genuinely passionate and intense this is.

no band has ever quite re-captured the magic I felt when first hearing my bloody valentine until now...
yet simultaneously "They Are Gutting a Body of Water" feels like something uniquely in it's own universe made by insane aliens. Not every idea pans out quite perfectly but I'm more than willing to take that if it means getting some of the craziest and most creative shoegaze I've ever heard. I would almost expect to at least not like a couple parts here and there on a project that ... read more
While the very lush wall of sound on this album is plenty enough for any shoegaze fan to dig their teeth into, the more longwinded post-rock leanings of much of the material doesn't compliment the one note vocals and similar feel between many of the songs.
Still, I certainly enjoyed much of this record and parannoul is one of the more interesting shoegaze projects I've heard from the last couple years. The sonic explosion halfway through Polaris, or the build at the end of Blossom with the ... read more
I'm a sucker for slow heavy rock music with a soft spoken vocalist and twinkly guitar parts... well this may be the king of albums like that.
The music invokes a similar amount of melancholy and personally emotional feelings as many early emo albums around this time period do for me however there is also something extremely mysterious and creepy to the atmosphere and writing of this record. I think the instrumentation mostly having a very dry texture to it really helps set up the ominous ... read more
I had to sit with this album for a very long time and through many listens before I really knew how I felt about it, let alone knowing how to start writing about it and attempting to describe it. Ants From Up There is a difficult album to represent with mere words as ridiculously cliché as that may sound. It's because as grandiose and far reaching as it may sound the emotion and feeling of the album is quite personal and specific; which may be its greatest strength and greatest weakness. ... read more
"Where the smoke from hell's exhaust pipe lingers above the cheap rent in the dark night" is the most bad ass description of a location I've ever heard.
I saw drug church live and it gave a new appreciation for some of the songs on here. After spending a lot more time with this EP in my life I find myself continuing to come back time and time again. Some of my favorite modern punk music is on this EP.
This album is such a uniquely dreary and ominous experience for a modern shoegaze album. The vocalist has such a haunting approach which compliments the minimalistic but very muddied instrumentals which often bubble up and reach very loud climaxes. A great listen for sure.

never really taken lean too seriously and if I did I think I would have not have had such a good time listening to this project. Still though, some of the songs on here were pretty tough to get through, just really not much to grab onto other than lean's moaning and it does not go over well. Not nearly as charismatic as his early days but there are still some good highlights here.

Holy Fawn has been able to capture a unique magic between shoegaze and metal sounds that is as hard as it is calming and ethereal. Dimensional Bleed has some of the most refined and well crafted songs from this band so far but it also has the most static and one note songs from the band as well.
Holy Fawn pushes the heaviness on this album while also pushing the lighter and more calming moments which makes for their most dynamic pieces to date. This is best seen on "Death is A ... read more
Once Twice Melody feels like the culmination of everything Beach House has put out up until this point repackaged and presented on a massive and grand scale. This album sounds like every instrument and resource they had at their disposal was utilized for the project.
The production could not be more on point either. Multilayered, reverb padded walls of sound submerge your ear drums while simple and crystal clear moments balance it out perfectly in a way thats very therapeutic.

This album doesn't feel anywhere near an 1hr 20min long and I think that's a testament to quality songwriting on almost every single song here. Even though some songs don't grab me instrumentally on this album I can't say any single song wasn't worth my time.

Drug church are certainly one of the punk bands you should be paying attention to. "Million Miles Of Fun" is epic as hell and "Premium Offer" sounds incredible.

A lot of moments on this album make me feel at peace and content the way Pinegrove's early work did. I'm all for it but sadly I think the album peaks within it's first three tracks and as it goes on it does get less and less interesting.

I respect what IDLES does as a band. The loud and abrasive punk energy they bring to the table comes across in a way that feels very genuine and likable. They are unapologetic and that within itself is refreshing. The issue I feel that keeps reoccurring with their music is that beneath all the shouting and emotion often times the song doesn't really have much staying power. IDLES has a lot of sick ideas they often experiment with but a lot of them are often pretty gimmicky and seem to work off ... read more
It's rare a musical project is able to be this widely appealing and be at this level of pure talent. I honestly didn't think it was possible but people underestimated how good a collaboration between these two could be. It sounds almost too good to be true at times.
I think this albums only real problem is that its just too sugery overthetop and goofy sometimes. It can feel like im drowning in maple syrup with sprinkles and whipped cream. Like when he says things like "that gushy gushy ... read more
Beach House have always had a talent for the details in their songs. Most of their music is very relaxed and simple but it draws emotional potency from strong songwriting and lyricism from Victoria. I believe this first collection of songs from their new album is them performing at their best. The songs on Once Twice Melody pull towards a theatrical and dream like feeling and slowly build into crescendos so smoothly that you almost don't realize it's happening.
The only little thing was that ... read more
