I knew this was gonna be great just from the singles and i wasnt dissapointed in the slightest. Political commentary mixed with good rapping and really sick punk rock influence. Vince is on a streak of greatness.
So every song on here sounds basically the same musically and touches on the same themes of depression and relationship issues with writing that is decent to good. That description makes this album sound like i shouldnt like it as much as i actually do but I think its the sense of nostalgia and melancholy created by the, sometimes waily, muffled vocals over the acousitc guitar that makes me enjoy this project and give it a 75 as opposed to a 60.
If i have to hear peggy talk shit about his imaginary opps and how he fucks bitches one more time im gonna blow my shit clean off
Only track im not a fan of is the one with dominic fike but otherwise all of em hit. A mostly great album, really enjoyable
This is blander than british food. Its what i expected the moment i saw that this final album was 9 tracks and 24 minutes long but id be lying if i said i wasnt still a little dissapointed.
This is vibey as shit with political sprinkles on top. I didnt know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised
So its like a fusion between electropop and folk/indie rock but it feels like its not complete, not 100% fused, making the album feel disconnected. Theres also that country interlude which completely kills all momentum up to that point and doesnt even sound good. Also, the short length of most of the tracks is detrimental. Just as id get into the vibe it would end, jarringly a lot of the time. Most notably on "the front" which has a very abrupt end and transition into the next song ... read more
Its good. Some songs are more forgettable than others in terms of production but i think the quality of the lyricism is pretty consistent throughout. Its one of those albums that you put on to vibe to imo.
Idk man its just lackluster. It doesnt sound bad, it just doesnt make me feel anything. I cant say ive listened to a whole lot of cynthoni but to me, the whole point of atmospheric dnb is the atmosphere and this track doesnt really have any just like their last ep didnt really have any.
Definitely a big improvement over their latest album. The production on here is cool and bouncy and interesting all the way through which makes some of these songs very replayable. The thing that holds this record back is dorian's vocals. The vocal performance is quite enjoyable on some tracks like "man to man" and "adam and steve" but its also borderline ear torture (not to be too harsh) on tracks like "daddy likes" and "live by the sword". Im not ... read more
First of all, the concept of having a self titled album full of covers isnt a good one imo. The best way to let people know who "dorian electra" is, is not by injecting your essence into already exisiting songs. Im not opposed to the idea of a project of covers but make it like a 5 song EP instead. That being said, none of these covers are even good. Id never choose to listen to any of these songs over the originals, but even if i was feeling like hearing an electronic spin, ... read more
Apart from a few tracks this album isnt anything special. Its not bad by any means and the whole thing is definitely enjoyable but nothing really stands out especially when compared to bangers we got this year from the likes of slayyyter and underscores.
Think this is the most boring album ive listened to in 2026. First time with thundercat's discog, id only heard features before and i was pretty excited but the excitement turned to dissapointment quite quick. Almost every single song on here sounds the same, no substance, nothing interesting.
