Revisiting Purple Rain as I do a Prince deep dive and what an album. There are some records in his discography that don’t hit me in a way that they hit a lot of other people on this site, but this one does. 9 tracks and every one of them is a banger, aging like fine wine with the mix of rock, funk, and pop. My favorite Prince songs are on this album, whether it be the title track, When Doves Cry, or Let’s Go Crazy. I originally had it at a 9.5, but I’m starting to get the ... read more
This is one of the only albums where I almost feel like giving it an 8/10 is a crime, but here are my thoughts good and bad. The highs on 1999 are so high: 1999, Little Red Corvette, and Lady Cab Driver are 80s absolute bangers and pop masterclasses. Corny and Horny: the album. Prince’s first 80s album is definitely a product of its time, while also lyrically pushing the limits of what was acceptable back in the day. There are a couple songs I just can’t get into here but also some bangers like When You Were Mine and the title track. It’s a short listen and a decently fun time overall, but I probably won’t revisit much.
Vince Staples Discog #6
Dark Times is the best Vince Staples album to date, combining his great technical rapping and writing with a track list full of bangers. It’s consistently been one of my favorite rap albums of 2024 that I have revisited a good bit.
