Justice - Hyperdrama
65

It's so hard to appreciate what Justice was doing after Cross. Cross is a generational album that will be remembered for years as one of the best house and electronic albums ever. It was heavy, hard-hitting, and most of all, it was composed well. Hyperdrama, despite releasing 15 years later from Cross, falls victim to so many faults. It's not as hard-hitting, it's not very heavy, and it's not composed well. Theirs simply too many ideas here. Cross, despite having much ... read more

Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights

Amazing sound and instrumentation throughout basically the whole record but sometimes vocals can get annoying.

Justice - Audio, Video, Disco.

Lacks so much passion and energy that made Cross so enjoyable.

Flume - We Live In A Society

I cannot think of a single reason of why I would return to any of these songs.

Significantly less interesting sonically than "For Long Tomorrow." Drumming is still incredible tho.

The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute
NR

This is completely the anti-style of modern music. I mean this shit came out in 2005, where the most popular albums are Late Registration and Demon Days. Just imagine being a music fan in 2005 and randomly coming across this album and going through the tracks before being surprised with a 32-minute closing track. How do you even react to this? There's so much constantly going on. Even the parts where there's 10 minutes of hollow buildup, there still manages to be so much going on. I ... read more

The Avalanches - Wildflower

The Avalanches accidentally fell into the most common musical trap of all time. I like to call it “Releasing one of the greatest albums of all time and then being tasked with making a good follow up 20 years later.” And that’s exactly what The Avalanches had to do. SILY is by far one of my favorite albums of all time, and it’s not even because the entire album is so good. SILY manages to create this sound(specifically with the title track) that I have yet to come across ... read more

The Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy

Great mix of genres here. Good rock basis and a lot of pop, noise, and even shoegaze elements thrown in. Fantastic mellow vocals as well.

Dinosaur Jr. - Bug

Jay Mascus is easily one of the greatest guitar players ever. Great album, almost as good as YLAOM. I have no clue why they decided to make “Don’t” tho. That song sucks.

The Fall - Hex Enduction Hour
68

During their 2001 Big Day Out performance in Sydney, Australia, the greatest hardcore band of all time, "At The Drive-In," before playing their song "Pattern Against User." the lead singer, Cedric Bixler Zavala, screams at the crowd. He exclaims, “If you don’t know who The Fall is, you’re listening to too much hip hop and heavy metal. This is for Mark E Smith!" And after watching this performance from the comfort of my home, my interest in this band ... read more

I previously wrote a ragebait review here by recycling whatever the top negative reviews into one block of text. If you look at the comments of this review, you will notice that the ragebait worked, but now, after actually listening to the album, I feel the need to write extensively about it. For the record, I have not listened to AFUT, but I do have basic knowledge of the general sound of the album and how it compares to this one.

The biggest problem that stood out to me throughout basically ... read more

By Storm - Double Trio 2
100

As much as I believe it's corny to label the BTTIGTP and By Storm sound as "Post-Rap," it's far from an understatement because that's exactly what it is. For years, people have innovated on fairly varied genres by eventually adding the word "Post" before it and then claiming it's something new. Most "Post" based sounds usually involve taking a genre, getting bored of it, and adding elements of other genres to it. Slint got bored of rock music ... read more

Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders & The London Symphony Orchestra - Promises
93

Very conflicted on this rating because assigning this a rating defeats its purpose. It’s an expierence, and barely even constitutes as an album. But genuinely incredible. That silvery progression(No idea what instrument it is) that you hear throughout all 9 movements adds so much. It sort of reminds me of LONG SEASON in a way, where in that album, the piano lingers in the background and comes back near the end. Promises manages to use a similar effect, and even though it’s ... read more

Dead Kennedys if they were alive today: "I am quite fond of Elon Musk."

Dead Kennedys - Plastic Surgery Disasters

My friend called this the "Mario Party 2 of albums." I have no idea what this means, or how it relates to Mario Party. But, all I know is that this is a significant step up from "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables."

Favorite Song: Forest Fire

Production is out of this world but it feels impossible to listen to these songs as Daveeds rapping constantly reminds me of Hamilton.
