1989 (Original Version) is the coolest thing to pop perfection that I've ever heard and I grew up listening to that album so I think hearing a lot of the key differences in these new recordings made me kind of sad. I don't think the new recordings are as good or better than the originals but they're still amazing. The vault songs were good for what they are, especially "Say Don't Go" but I found a few of them a little stale- probably due to THAT man being the sole producer of these ... read more
Really just the greatest pop record of all time. Perfection and almost nothing else.
Really well done and interesting!! I will always be with you and The poor wayfaring stranger are def highlights for me. I feel like if you had no prior knowledge of Kristin's work as Lingua this would be soooo confusing lmao like imagine just stumbling upon this and just assuming it's some really dark gospel shit. Really nostalgic since I grew up spending a lot of time in Appalachia and hearing like Christian spiel everywhere.
I liked it until Sam started because the production randomly changed and it started to sound just super repetitive
Really gorgeous as a whole, fantastic sound through and through, but there are definitely tracks that feel a lot less engaging than others. But really excellent still!
this album suffers from a lot of arcade fire syndrome, where the songs are meant to seem deep but really have shallow lyrics with extremely poorly made instrumentals that sound like a knock-off pure heroine
Melanie Martinez's "Portals" is an absolute train wreck of an album, a catastrophic collision of nonsensical lyrics, grating vocals, and uninspired production. From start to finish, it's a sonic nightmare that will leave you questioning your taste in music and wondering how such a disaster ever made its way into the public sphere.
First and foremost, Martinez's lyrics are bafflingly terrible. They oscillate between cringe-worthy attempts at profundity and nonsensical, vapid ramblings ... read more
Lana creates a sonic map of her mind on Did you know that there's a tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, where her lyricism shines through properly for the first time. Sorry for sleeping on this for so long!
Unclassy, repetitive, and gimmicky pop that plays into the most degrading of gay stereotypes
her best work since puberty 2, exploring sounds I've never heard before and definitely not in the way she uses them
instrumentally an improvement upon her previous work, but the lyrics reek of inauthenticity and insensitivity
